In April of 2002, nine Johnson County flyers and several of their friends founded EAA Chapter 1354.  The group headed up by Alan Gluff, consisted of Bill Fleener, Penny Ratlif, Kerry Geesaman, Ken Parmer, Bob Kessler, Roger Tomey, Ron Craig and Rusty Nichols and many, many others.

The first major act of business was to form two (2) $500 scholarships through the Johnson County Community Foundation.  To date, two of those scholarships have been awarded to a couple of young gentlemen attending Purdue University, Ross Reinhardt and Tim Six.

With a meager beginning of less than twenty-five people, EAA 1354 has more than tripled its membership in less than three years.  The Chapter 1354 Young Eagles program is second to none, in 2004 on one day...the chapter flew over 400 young 'would-be' aviators.
